BEAVER CREEK, Colo., December 4, 2021 -- KJUS athlete Ted Ligety announced his retirement in February 2021, but his legacy will indeed live on. His name will forever be etched into history as “Ligety’s Legacy,” the new name for a section of the Birds of Prey course, was unveiled before this weekend’s World Cup race.
Ted is no stranger to the Birds of Prey course at Beaver Creek. His career spans nearly two decades with 25 World Cup victories – five of which he won at Beaver Creek – 52 World Cup Podiums, five World Cup titles, seven world championship medals and two Olympic gold medals.
Though his retirement means no more racing for gold, his love for the sport continues with his work as an analyst for NBC, which brought him to Beaver Creek the past weekend to call the World Cup races.
Ted said about his next chapter: I’m still working with a lot of partners. It’s fun to have a diverse selection of work to keep me busy.
KJUS is proud have Ted as part of the family. We all know Ted as a legendary skier but what many don’t know about, is his talent for product. He has the mind of an engineer,
said Brooke Mackenzie, President of KJUS. Combine that with the many hours he has spent on the snow and the result is many exciting ideas for product innovation. We have already put him to work on the Ligety Series, which debuts in Fall of 2022 – his work is impressive.
When asked if he missed participating this last weekend in the Birds of Prey, Ted said: I have no regrets on the retirement side. It fun being up there, seeing the guys, all the friends. It was fun to watch, fun to be back at Beaver Creek.
KJUS congratulates Ted and we all look forward to sparking down Ligety’s Legacy the next time we are at Beaver Creek.
